ColorMarq Frequently Asked Questions

Must we complete the conversion of our entire collection before realizing the benefits of color-coded shelving management?

No, libraries may choose to systematically introduce ColorMarq on section by section basis within the library. Each ColorMarq section of the library collection is a self contained color-coded group, providing all of the benefits to that section immediately.

How do we apply ColorMarq labels at the same position on all books?

Application is quick and easy with the ColorMarq LPG, a specially designed label placement guide that enables the label to be placed in the same location on each and every book..

What about narrow books?

ColorMarq labels are designed to accommodate all book spines, from the very wide to the very narrow. Since the labels are actually wrapped around book spines during application, label color bars, on even the thinnest books, are clearly visible when adjacent to other books on the shelf.

How do we label our new books?

ColorMarq ID Labels can be created on-site in the library with ColorMarq In Library Processing Software or new book marc records can be periodically transmitted to ColorMarq for pre-printed label processing. Libraries may also request that ColorMarq labels be included on new books from their book suppliers.

What about people that are color blind?

99.5% of all women have full color vision (199 out of 200) and 96% of all men have full color vision (12 out of 13). These figures indicate that at least 97% of the general population has full color vision, and therefore can see the virtues of color coding. Of the remaining 3%, who are color-challenged, most with slight marginal deficiencies will benefit since they do possess a sustained recognition level of color hue.
